Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Your adventure begins as you arrive in Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital. After a warm welcome by your local guide, you will embark on a drive to Volcanoes National Park, home to the world-famous mountain gorillas. The journey takes around 2.5 to 3 hours. Once you get to Volcanoes National Park, you will be greeted with traditional Rwandan hospitality. You will check into a lodge, unpack and enjoy the surrounding beauty. You will then be served lunch. You will relax at the lodge till evening. You will be after having dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early morning breakfast, it will be followed by a transfer to the park’s headquarters for a briefing on the day’s activities. You will meet with the park guide at the headquarters, who will brief you on the guidelines and safety rules to follow while gorilla trekking.

Your trek will take 1 to 7 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Your expert guide, along with a team of rangers, will lead you through the jungle, sharing their knowledge about the gorillas’ behaviour, habitat and conservation efforts. Once you reach the gorillas, you spend an hour observing them.

After the gorilla encounter, you will return to the lodge for lunch. The rest of the afternoon will be spent exploring the park further with a visit to the Karisoke Research Centre, where the legendary Dian Fossey spent much of her life studying gorillas. The centre, located in the heart of the park, holds significant historical importance in gorilla conservation. Later, you will get back to the lodge to have dinner, and you will retire to bed.

Day 3: Twin Lakes Trek, Cultural Experience and Departure

After breakfast, you will head to the Twin Lakes, located in the northwest of Rwanda, just outside the Volcanoes National Park. The twin lakes of Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo are nestled between the towering peaks of the Virunga Mountains. The trek around the lakes offers some of the most eye-catching views in the region. The day’s trek starts with a short drive to the lakes, where you will begin your hike around their shores.

You will have the opportunity to meet local farmers, fishermen and artisans, offering you a glimpse into the rural way of life. You may also visit a local community centre, where you can participate in traditional activities such as basket weaving or pottery making.

After lunch at a picnic spot, you will embark on a boat ride across Lake Ruhondo or Lake Burera. The boat ride provides different views of the lakes, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the vegetation. Later in the day, you will depart from Volcanoes National Park; you will once again pass through the lush landscapes, providing a last chance to absorb the beauty of Rwanda’s rolling hills. Depending on your flight schedule, you will be dropped off at Kigali International Airport for your departure.
