Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Ihema Boat Cruise.
You will be met by our expert driver-guide at your agreed location in Kigali and, thereafter, transferred to Akagera National Park for a Rwanda safari and arrive in the early morning for a game drive with a chance to explore many game animals, especially the herbivores like the elephants and rhinos. You will have a chance to view the endless plains of the park, among others.
Later, go participate in a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you will see lots of game such as hippos, crocodiles and various bird species like the endangered shoebill stork and African kingfishers catching their prey from the lake that lives around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Karenge Bush Camp (budget) or Akagera Game Lodge (mid-range).

Day 2: Early morning game drive and transfer to Volcanoes NP.
Wake up early and head out on the morning game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals, such as herbivores and big five mammals, which rise early to graze. After the game drive, you will be transferred back to Volcanoes National Park via Kigali. You will have lunch in Kigali and, after, continue to Ruhengeri town for the night stay. Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking
After a briefing, you will be accompanied by the skilled ranger through the trails to look out for these active primates. The duration of your trek depends on the movements of the golden monkey troop. The golden monkeys can cover a fair amount of distance daily, so it can take a while for the trackers to locate them. When they are found, you’re allowed an hour, maximum, with them before heading back. So don’t be surprised seeing them jumping quite close, and also, be aware of standing directly underneath a group in the trees. Dinner and an overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Mgahinga National Park, Uganda
After an early, yummy breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to Mgahinga National Park from Kigali to begin your Uganda safari, a journey that lasts 3 to 4 hours. You will drive through the Cyanika border at Kisoro. Along the way, you will enjoy spectacular views of rolling hills in Rwanda, beautiful scenery, and much more. Arrive at the park; you can opt to go for the Batwa community trails, where you will enjoy interacting with the Batwa people and learning about their lifestyle. Connect to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Lake Mulehe Lodge (mid-range) or Travel Best Camp Lodge (budget).

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga National Park and departure to Kigali
After an early breakfast, carry your packed lunch from the lodge and then meet up with your driver-guide to drive you to the park headquarters for a short briefing about the rules and regulations to follow. After the briefing, you will be grouped into a group of eight (8) people by the park ranger, who will lead you through trails in search of mountain gorillas. The trek can take about 30 minutes to 6 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located.
During the gorilla trekking, expect to see other primate species, tree species, and different bird species. Once the mountain gorillas are found, you will be allowed one hour to watch them feeding, behaving, grooming their young ones, taking photos, and capturing videos, among other things.
