6 Days Rwanda Gorilla And Chimpanzee Trekking Safari

This is a 6 days gorilla and chimpanzee safari in Rwanda to Nyungwe National Park and Volcanoes National Park. Volcanoes National Park is popular for hosting about half of the remaining world’s gorilla population, and Nyungwe National Park is home to the chimpanzees.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick-up from Kigali Airport and a city tour in Kigali

You will have an early morning pickup by our company representative driver guide from Kigali International Airport, and you will go for a city tour in Kigali. You will first visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial for a study of what transpired during the 1994 Rwanda genocide. You will then head to the Rwanda Art Museum to have views of the various art pieces at the museum. After that, you will go to a hotel for lunch.

After lunch, you will head to Kimironko Market. At Kimironko market, you will talk briefly with the locals conducting business from there, and you will have the chance to purchase items of your choice at this local market. You will then head to the hotel, where you will spend the night. You will check in, have a shower and have dinner. You will then retire to bed.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You will have an early morning breakfast at the hotel in Kigali, and then you will check out. After checking out, the guide will drive you to Volcanoes National Park. You will have a stopover at Musanze Caves, where you will have views of bats that reside in these caves.

You will have views of numerous attractions at these caves and then proceed to Volcanoes National Park. You will arrive and check into a lodge. You will be served lunch at the lodge. You will relax at the lodge till the day breaks. You will have dinner and retire to bed.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and a hike to Dian Fossey’s tomb

You will have breakfast very early in the morning, and then you will be briefed at the park headquarters. You will then go for a Rwanda gorilla trek in the forest with an armed ranger guide. Spotting the Rwanda gorillas takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours, depending on their location. You will be allowed to stay with the gorillas for one hour, and then you head back to the lodge. You will have lunch and relax.

You will leave the lodge in the afternoon, and then you will go for a hike to Dian Fossey’s Tomb. The hike to Dian Fossey’s tomb will enable you to spot several birds and primates, among others. You will have a glance at the Tomb of Dian Fossey and then head back to the lodge. You will have dinner at the lodge and then retire to bed.

Day 4: Hike to Mount Bisoke and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

You will have breakfast and then leave the lodge and head to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will go for a hike to Mount Bisoke. The hike to Mount Bisoke takes about 6 hours to and from. You will hike to the summit for approximately 4 hours, but this entirely depends on your level of fitness. You will spot primates, birds, neighbouring volcanic mountains and craters. You will then descend, which will take approximately 2 hours. You will head to the lodge and have lunch.

After lunch, you will check out of the lodge. You will then head to Nyungwe Forest National Park, where you will check into a lodge upon arrival. You will have dinner at the lodge and then retire to bed.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk

You will wake up in the morning and be served breakfast at the lodge. The guide will then transfer you from the lodge and take you for a briefing at the park headquarters. The briefing will be about chimpanzee trekking, and after that, you will leave the park headquarters and start chimpanzee trekking Rwanda. You will start the hunt for the chimpanzees, and after spotting them, you will have one hour with them. Spotting them takes 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on their location. You will then head back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will go for a canopy walk. The canopy walk at Nyungwe National Park takes place at the suspended bridge, and it will last for approximately 2 hours at the suspended bridge of about 160 m long and 70 m high. You will head back to the lodge, relax, have dinner and retire to bed.

Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali Airport

You will rise very early in the morning, and you will have breakfast. After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge. The driver guide will pick you up from the lodge and transfer you to Kigali Airport to catch your flight.
