This is a 4 days double gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda where you will be picked up from Kigali Airport, and you will be taken to the Kigali Genocide Memorial for a historical study about what took place during the 1994 Rwanda genocide. You will then head to Volcanoes National Park, where you will conduct the double gorilla trekking safari. Volcanoes National Park is famous for harbouring a large number of mountain gorillas.

Volcanoes National Park shelters several gorilla families; there, you will conduct the first gorilla trek and meet one of the families of gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. You will have a second gorilla trek to meet another gorilla family. You will also have a cultural experience at Iby’iwacu cultural village. You will conclude the Rwanda safari with a visit to Kimironko market, and then you will return to Kigali Airport for a flight.

Detailed itinerary for the 4 days double gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali Airport and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You will have a meet-up with a guide from Chopper Tour and Travel, and you will interact about the safari details, and then you will begin the safari with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. You will get details about the 1994 Rwanda genocide and what took place. You will get to see the remains of the participants in the Kigali genocide, and then you will head to a hotel for lunch.

After lunch, you will embark on the journey to Volcanoes National Park. It will take approximately 2 hours, and when you arrive, you will check into a lodge, have dinner and then retire to bed.

Day 2: First gorilla trek and  a visit to Iby’iwacu cultural village

After having an early morning breakfast, you will leave the lodge, and then you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will be briefed on how to behave while gorilla trekking, and then you will be allocated a gorilla family to meet. You will spend about 30 minutes to 7 hours searching for them, and this will depend on their location. You will spend one hour with them, and after careful observation of how they behave and taking pictures of them, you will head back to the lodge.

After having lunch, you will visit Iby’iwacu cultural village. You will meet and greet with the locals at Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, who will teach you about the Rwandese traditions, culture and history. You will watch them dance their traditional dance, and then you will get back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Second gorilla trek

After having an early morning breakfast at the lodge, you will receive a packed lunchbox at the lodge. You will then leave the lodge and head to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will be briefed by the park wardens at the park headquarters about the second gorilla trek, and then you will be allocated a gorilla family to meet. You will search for the gorillas for about 30 minutes to 7 hours. After spotting them, you will have one hour with them. You will observe how they feed, play and much more. You will have pictures of the Rwanda gorillas and then head back to the lodge, have some rest, and in the evening, you will have dinner, and then you will retire to bed.

Day 4: Depart for Kigali Airport

After having breakfast very early in the morning, you will check out of the lodge. You will then start the journey back to Kigali Airport in Kigali city. You will have a stopover at Kimironko market. You will have a glimpse at the various commodities sold at this market. You will see items like clothes, beads, earrings, handbags, sculptures, art pieces, bangles and many more. You will then head to a hotel for lunch after visiting the market. The guide will then transfer you to Kigali Airport.
