Mountain Gorilla view lodge is fairly priced luxury lodge in the volcanoes National park. This fantastic eco-lodge is located on the foothills of the mount Karisimbi, one of the volcanic mountains that make up the Virunga massif. Gorilla Mountain View lodge boasts stunning views of the volcanoes, as well as being located only 3 kilometers from the park headquarters.

It was opened in 2009 and it was among the best rated luxury lodges in the Rwandan volcanoes till the high-end lodges opened.  It boasts of stunning views of the volcanic mountains of the Virunga massif. The lodge is conveniently located 3 kilometers from the entrance of the volcanoes National park.

The lodge is not a perfect base for the mountain gorilla trekking but it is also a cosy and comfortable property to relax and wind up during your safari in northern Rwanda. The cottages are made up of bricks and tiles, are nothing extravagant but do provide everything you need, such as a suite bathroom and comfortable bed. The electricity and hot water is supplied by generator, which is on at limited times of the day.

Sensitively designed and built using local sustainable resources, the lodge‘s 30 cottages are well spaced from each other and come complete with fireplace and the suites bathrooms. The view from the lodge and rooms are amazing-rugged, forest-covered mountains steaming with mist and mystery and you will see birds and monkeys in the gardens as you stroll around and soak up the scenery. Daily performance of traditional Rwandan song and dance add to the uniquely African atmosphere.

The main focus at mountain Gorilla view lodge is access to one of the 12 habituated gorilla families in the volcanoes National park. Your trek to find them may be as short as 30 minutes or it may be several hours but the reward is an unappalled wildlife experience shared by only a privileged few. It can be tough and muddy work trekking through rainforest so protective gloves and gaiters are provided by the lodge a thoughtful touch, as is the complementary boot-cleaning service. There are also trek into the forest to search for the rare golden monkey as well as hike to the grave of Dian fosssey, the late conservationist who first bought the plight of the mountain gorillas  to the world’s attention decades ago.

Accommodation at mountain Gorilla view lodge comes in the form 30 stone-and-thatch cottages, well-spaced apart for privacy and with dazzling views as soon as you step outside onto their verandas.

Spacious and comfortably furnished, the cottages have small lounge with tea-and-coffee station plus a fireplace that is lit for your return from what might have been a cold and wet day trekking for gorillas. Each cottages has suite bathroom with basin, shower and flush toilets plus a hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. Pop your muddy boots outside the door and they will be returned clean-free of charge.

The lodge’s central area is a home to restaurant and bar as well as a large lounge that is split into three seating, floor rugs and roaring log fire all give the main building a cost atmosphere in keeping with the friendly and informal nature of the lodge. Step outside and there is seating area around a fire pit-ideal for swapping gorillas stories and extensive gardens full of wildlife. Each night guests are treated to a display of Rwandan song and dance, put on by the local community.

Dinning

Meals at mountain Gorilla view lodge are served buffet or a la carte, depending on guest number at the lodge. Dinning is at individuals tables with rooms’ service available if requested in advance. Your day being with hearty breakfast buffet with both cooked and continental options.  Lunch is an ala cart affairs with choice such as quiche with fresh, locally grown vegetables and salad. Dinner is a 3-course buffet, perhaps starting with pumpkin followed by grilled chicken with a traditional Rwandan vegetables stew. Cakes, fruits salads and chocolate among the deserts on offer.
